Introduction

eXaPhoto provides a fundamentally novel solution to this high cost issue! Before uploading, the app reduces the picture file size by compressing the original multi-megapixel file into a compact standardized file. The pictures stored for sharing on the eXaPhoto servers are small and optimized for viewing on mobile devices, PCs, Mac and laptop screens. Uploading is extremely fast and server storage requirements remain very light. Creating Albums from mobile devices uses very little bandwidth. On the server side, the need for bandwidth decreases drastically. The storage (including backup) and maintenance costs are reduced accordingly. Total server operating costs are shrunk dramatically in comparison to conventional picture sharing server farms.

Benefits
Wedding or other event photographers, or other high volume photographers easily shoot thousands of photos, organize them on hard disks and drag and drop the event folder (complete with sub-folders) into the eXaPhoto‘ Uploader. These new photos are instantly viewable by the public or invited individuals. The iOS eXaPhoto app (Apple AppStore), creates albums on the go, enables viewing of Published albums, providing easy access to very large photo collections (easily over 50’000) ..without clogging the memory of an iOS device ! eXaPhoto has also a unique alternative photo viewing solution, displaying pictures directly onto recipient’s PC (or Mac) as Wallpaper and/or Screen Saver. When the recipient’s computer is idle, the eXaPhoto app can transform the computer screen into a dynamic digital photo frame, providing a perfect time to have a glance at the shared photos.

How it Works

eXaPhoto’ innovative technology dynamically scales images to the right size at the right time.
When a user publishes an online album, the PC, Mac or ActiveX client automatically generates thumbnail images and screen resolution images quickly and efficiently all in the background. This allows users to create and share online albums up to 30 times faster than traditional photo-sharing systems. Whenever a larger image is needed, for example for a print order or a wallpaper request, the client automatically scales the requested image and uploads it…all automatically.

Publisher

The terminology used for this application – “Publisher” is the person who initially created and shared the photo albums. And “Viewer” for the person who views a photo album.

We refer to the eXaPhoto service as using a technology that we named “Decentralized Assets Architecture”. The whole service is built using Web Services Description Language (WSDL) technology.

For a quick overview of this technology, please refer to the illustration.

The “Uploader” resides on the customer’s PC or mobile device. It “pings” the eXaPhoto‘ servers at regular intervals (or waits for “notifications” in mobile cases). When an eXaPhoto “Viewer” requests to download the original file, the eXaPhoto application manage the file transfer. The burden (and the cost) of moving large high resolution files happens only when it is required, and when someone is willing to pay for it. On mobile devices, by default, this occurs when connected to WiFi.

Viewer

Terminology used for this application – “Publisher” is the person who initially created and shared the photo albums. And “Viewer” for the person who views a photo album.

For a quick overview of this technology, please refer to the illustration below:

The basic viewer is “web-based, any type of computers that can run a browser can normally see a photo album
We also have also made a “dedicated” Viewer that is iOS-based (available on the app store). btw, it is the same app mentioned above an iOS Publisher that can Publish AND View.

We made also a very special viOS viewer (see GGC app in the apple app store) to view (it is a pure Viewer only, no publishing) specific events, in this case about 15’000 photos from a Rolex golf event.
If you download the app, on the VERY first use, it will ask (one time only) for a password.

On the PC usage, the Publisher has a component that keeps running and that we call the “Agent” You can see the presence of the Agent in the taskbar.

Currently, we have different “ways” to publish an album:

  • Using the Windows “publisher” (free download on the web site)
  • Using the iOS Publisher (free app available on the Apple App store)

  • Using the iOS Publisher (app available on the Apple App store)
